A year and a half-ago I created QuiltFusion, an app that enables people to easily design quilts, generate patterns, and share them with others. Collaboration is at the heart of it because it brings ideas to the surface that you couldn’t imagine on your own.

  • First, I partnered with non-textile artists to translate their work – birds, jellyfish, flowers, monkeys — into fabric appliqués that quilters can use to design their quilts.
  • Next, I teamed up with fabric shops and manufacturers to provide a library of beautiful textiles – because we don’t want to design with fabrics we can’t get!
  • Finally, the QuiltFusion platform features a set of simple digital tools that allow quilters to not only compose their design, but collaborate with others to create them. A person can share their design in the gallery, allowing others to use and customize the design to make it their own.

Available for use on iPad and desktop computers, QuiltFusion is a free app that anyone can use to design and collaborate. The only cost is when someone wants to generate full-size patterns.
When quilters are happy with their design, QuiltFusion generates a pattern with step-by-step instructions specific to that design. This includes accurate yardage lists with swatches, full sized cutting templates, and fusing guides — even SVG cutting files for digital cutters. Creating quilt patterns couldn’t be easier!
